City Free Chlorinates Water System The City of Sunrise Utilities Department maintains the highest quality standards to provide clean, safe drinking water to customers in its service area, which includes the cities of Sunrise, Weston, Southwest Ranches and parts of Davie. From
November 5th through December 2nd, the Utilities Department will be using "free" chlorine in its drinking water treatment system to provide additional protection against bacteria.
This temporary treatment of the water system is a common practice for water suppliers that use a chlorine (chloramine) water treatment method. This periodic program is mandated by the Broward County Health Department.
The procedure does not cause any adverse health effects. However, some individuals may notice a slight change in the taste, odor or color of the water during this time.
For more information regarding the City of Sunrise's treatment system, please contact the Utilities Department at (954) 888-6000.
Protect Your Landscaping from Ficus Whitefly Ficus whiteflies - small, winged insects - are causing considerable damage to ficus trees and hedges throughout southeastern Florida. They feed on the underside of leaves, leading to wilting, yellowing and, ultimately, leaf drop.
If you have ficus on your property, you should be aware of available options for whitefly control. The University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences offers a
ficus whitefly overview
designed to help homeowners identify this insect pest as well as treat and/or prevent whitefly damage.
